Some structures, including huts, were set on fire at a village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday. The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), an insurgent group, claimed responsibility, saying the action was part of a “decisive campaign” against illegal opium poppy cultivation, narcotics trafficking, and alleged encroachment by illegal immigrants in what it described as the ancestral territory of the Zeliangrong Inpui Naga people. The Zeliangrong community comprises four kindred Naga tribes — Zeme, Liangmai, Inpui, and Rongmei. Security forces, including the Assam Rifles, rushed to the area after the incident and said the situation is being closely monitored. Authorities have not reported any casualties so far.
