Lokmat Conclave: Top Voices Flag Challenges Facing Judiciary, Constitutional Bodies

At the Lokmat Conclave, Supreme Court judge Justice B R Gavai, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Qureshi spoke about the challenges faced by constitutional bodies. Justice Gavai referred to pressures during the Surinder Koli judgment, while Singhvi highlighted the pressures faced by judges during the confirmation process. The panel also discussed the recent move to impeach a judge who had delivered the Thiruparankundram judgment. Justice Gavai, however, said he remained confident that the judiciary is independent and constitutional bodies continue to function with autonomy.
