If it was because of Hamas that Israel flattened Gaza, then it was to go after the Hezbollah that the IDF was sent into Lebanon - again. The first invasion had been in 1982; it lasted for 18 years. The next time was in 2006 and then again in 2025. This is the 3rd time that Israel has marched into Lebanon saying it has to set up a buffer zone for its own security; Lebanon sees it as an invasion. With the border between them never having been formalised and with the question of Palestine providing ready tinder, the fighting never ends in the Levant.
