Kerala’s cultural capital Thrissur, is as much about heritage and identity as it is about politics. At its heart stands the iconic Vadakkunnathan Temple, encircled by the sprawling Thekkinkadu Maidan - a space that transforms every year during the grand Thrissur Pooram. From classical arts and temple festivals to literature, Thrissur has long been at the centre of Kerala's public life. Politically, Thrissur Assembly constituency has witnessed intense contests over the decades, largely dominated by the UDF and LDF. This year, the LDF has fielded Alankode Leelakrishnan, a poet, lyricist and cultural activist, who is making his electoral debut. Leelakrishnan belongs to the CPI and he is seeking to retain the seat for his party by banking on the LDF's governance record and organisational strength.
