A Youth Congress leader and his aide have been arrested in Karnataka for allegedly running a ₹2.7 crore extortion racket targeting a businessman. According to police, the accused allegedly blackmailed the victim using private photographs and videos, extracting large sums of money over nearly two years. Investigators say the threats escalated when one of the accused allegedly staged a fake suicide, intensifying pressure on the businessman and deepening fears of legal trouble and public embarrassment. The alleged fraud came to light after the businessman reportedly spotted the supposedly deceased accused alive in Mangaluru, prompting a police complaint and subsequent investigation. Police have now arrested two accused and are probing whether additional payments were made, if more victims were targeted, and whether others were involved in the operation.
