Iran has reimposed restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, accusing the United States of failing to honour commitments to ease its blockade on Iranian ports. Tehran said the strategic waterway is now under strict military control and warned that transit will remain blocked until U.S. restrictions are lifted. The move comes after President Donald Trump asserted the American blockade would continue until a broader deal, including on Iran’s nuclear programme, is reached. The escalation threatens global energy supplies, with nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil passing through the strait.
