India's Women's Representation Journey: From Hope to Delay

The women's reservation bill had been passed by Parliament and signed into law by a woman President of India, back in 2023. But though the Bill became law, its implementation was paused till that time that delimitation of constituencies could be done, and that would happen only after a Census took place. Even before the law was passed, it had still been a decades long struggle to get everyone to agree to reserving 1/3rd seats in the lower house of parliament, for women. The journey, to guarantee adequate representation, had in fact begun very soon after independence when it was found that not enough women were coming forward to take up elected leadership positions… On NDTV, we FOCUS this time on the LADIES SEAT... the story and the struggle for Women's political representation in India.
