The women's reservation bill had been passed by Parliament and signed into law by a woman President of India, back in 2023. But though the Bill became law, its implementation was paused till that time that delimitation of constituencies could be done, and that would happen only after a Census took place. Even before the law was passed, it had still been a decades long struggle to get everyone to agree to reserving 1/3rd seats in the lower house of parliament, for women.
