"I Listen To My Instincts, Not Data": Says Gautam Gambhir

India men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir said he relies primarily on instinct rather than data when making decisions for the national side. In an interview, Gambhir said he trusts his judgment and is prepared to take responsibility if a decision does not work. Gambhir said every leader brings a different vision to the role and that his approach reflects how he wants the Indian team to play and conduct itself during his tenure. He added that future coaches will have their own philosophy and will not be required to follow his methods. The Indian coach also said he values discussions with experienced figures in Indian cricket, including VVS Laxman and Ajit Agarkar. Under Gambhir, India has won the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2025 Asia Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup, while the team continues its push for a first ICC World Test Championship title.
