Gautam Gambhir Eyes World Test Championship Final After T20 World Cup Win: "That's My Next Target"
India head coach Gautam Gambhir has set his next goal after guiding the team to victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Gambhir said his focus is now on helping India reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-2027. India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to successfully defend their T20 World Cup title. The win made India the first team to claim the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to win consecutive titles after their 2024 victory, and the first side to lift the trophy three times. Speaking about the next challenge, Gambhir said Test cricket remains extremely close to his heart. He said the team will focus on qualifying for the World Test Championship final while continuing to support young players during the transition in red-ball cricket.
