Heavy rain continue to batter coastal districts of Karnataka. The Indian Meteorological Department has sounded a red alert Uttar Kannada, Dakshin Kannada and Udupi districts. Following the incessant rains, holidays have been declared to schools and colleges in eight districts of Karnataka. The government has instructed district in charge officers to be on alert in case of a tragedy following the landslide in Mangaluru that killed three labourers hailing from Kerala. SDRF and NDRF have been deployed in Kodagu, Karwar and Udupi districts as rain is expected to continue for the next few days. Relief and rescue operations are on to move civilians to safety zones after flooding has been reported in low lying areas.
