The death of a young 23 year old of injuries she suffered in one of the most horrific rape crimes the country has seen, has galvanized a public so far almost apathetic and inured to violence and crime, into demanding better safety, better response mechanisms and most importantly a better society that treats women as people. A commission led by former Chief Justice of India, JS Verma, has been mandated to make suggestions to improve the system's responses to such crimes, but are we willing to change ourselves and the way we think? Have we made a start?
