FCRA Bill Sent To JPC Amid Ruckus | Congress, SP & DMK Oppose Centre's Move

Amid massive ruckus in the Lok Sabha, the House passed a motion to send the FCRA Bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for detailed consideration. The JPC is expected to submit its report by the first week of the Winter Session. MoS Home Affairs Nityanand Rai moved the motion, which was opposed by the Congress, Samajwadi Party and DMK. Congress leader KC Venugopal accused the government of targeting minority institutions, while SP chief Akhilesh Yadav questioned whether the Centre had brought any legislation that did not target minorities. DMK's TR Baalu urged the government to withdraw the Bill. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju hit back, challenging the Opposition to identify a single provision that is "anti-minority" and accusing it of spreading falsehoods.
