“Extremely Severe Alert”: Phones Beep Across India As Centre Tests Disaster Information Alert System

Millions of mobile users across India received an emergency alert as the Centre tested its indigenous Cell Broadcast system designed for disaster warnings. The message, marked “Extremely Severe Alert,” was part of a nationwide trial and required no action from citizens. Rolled out by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia with support from the National Disaster Management Authority under the guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah, the system delivers real-time alerts without internet access. Powered by the SACHET platform developed by C-DOT, the service is now operational across all states and Union Territories. NDTV's Megha Murty brings you the details.
