The rupee weakened by 43 paise to close at a historic low of 69.05 against the US currency on Thursday. That marked the first time the rupee ended below the 69 level against the greenback. The US dollar strengthened as upbeat comments on the US economy by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell drove the American currency to a one-year high against global currencies. Thursday also marked the biggest single-day fall in the rupee against the US currency since May 29.
