BJP Recalls Emergency, Accuses Indira Gandhi Of Saving Her Chair
At a press conference marking 50 years of the Emergency, BJP leaders launched a sharp attack on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, alleging that the Emergency was imposed primarily to protect her political position after legal setbacks in court. The BJP claimed that democratic institutions, the judiciary, Parliament, the media, and civil liberties were severely undermined during the 1975–77 period.
