Bangladesh is preparing for a landmark democratic exercise as it announces its 13th Parliamentary Election on February 12, 2026, to be held alongside a nationwide referendum on the July National Charter. Announced by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, the vote will be the first general election since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government in August 2024. As BNP posters flood streets across the country, political mobilisation is intensifying. The interim government has framed the dual polling day as a transition from the mass uprising to a “Second Republic” rooted in institutional accountability. The July National Charter, backed by over 25 political parties including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, aims to dismantle past autocratic structures and redefine governance.
