Assam's Initiatives To End Child Marriages In The State

GP Singh, DGP, Assam Police, said that Assam was one of the first states to launch a massive tough crackdown last year against child marriage. Mr. Singh informed that the police had registered about 4,600 cases across the state, and on the basis of the FIRs, they started further investigation. The DGP said that 90 per cent of the cases have already been submitted in charge sheets, and nearly 3,400 people have been arrested so far. In order to put an end to the criminal practice, Mr. Singh said that educating the elders in the family is the primary step about the significance of a girl child and the rest will fall into line.
