Assam river island faces submersion threat

Majuli in Assam may still be in contention for the UNESCO tag of a world heritage site but with half of the island washed away over the last two decades unless immediate measures are taken its inhabitants as well as its heritage are in danger. Ninety per cent of the island town is under water with very little help at hand.
