| Assam Launches Drug Disposal Drive, Himanta Biswa Sarma Destroys Drugs Worth ₹472 Crore

Assam has intensified its war against narcotics. In one of the state's biggest anti-drug disposal drives, seized drugs worth more than Rs 472 crore were destroyed on Sunday.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the campaign against drug trafficking will become even stronger in the coming days. In a major crackdown on the drug menace, the Assam Government on Sunday destroyed seized narcotics worth Rs 472.51 crore at a state-level disposal programme held on the outskirts of Guwahati. The seized drugs were scientifically destroyed using a high-temperature incinerator provided by the Central Government. Officials said the disposal process is environmentally safe and will continue for the next eight to nine days to clear the remaining stock of seized narcotics. The destroyed contraband included morphine, opium, heroin, cocaine, over 19 lakh Yaba tablets, more than 2.29 lakh bottles of cough syrup, nearly 38,000 kilograms of ganja and poppy straw.
