Nagaon Bypoll: BJP, Congress, Ajmal In Three-Way Battle In Muslim-Majority Seat
Polling is underway in Assam's Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, with BJP's Devashis Sharma, Congress's Shibamoni Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal locked in a three-way contest. The crucial seat has around 19 lakh voters, with Muslims accounting for more than 55% of the electorate after delimitation. The bypoll was necessitated after Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi switched to the BJP and is now a BJP MLA. Sharma, a former Nagaon Deputy Commissioner, took voluntary retirement from service before entering the contest.
