Indians have often expressed their love for international travel. From visiting surreal destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bali, Dubai, and Nepal to exploring secluded islands, India has now risen to the 75th position in the global passport rankings, according to the Henley Passport Index 2026. The latest update marks a 10-place jump from its 2025 position, granting Indian citizens access to 56 destinations without a prior visa. Last year, Indian citizens were allowed to visit 55 countries visa-free or with visa on arrival.
The recent addition of The Gambia, a small West African nation, has brought the total to 56 culturally rich international destinations where Indian passport holders can travel either visa-free or with visa on arrival. Meanwhile, India has also lost access to Iran and Bolivia. Based on 20 years of historical data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the list of countries accessible to Indian citizens without a prior visa is divided into three categories:
- Visa-free entry
- Visa on arrival
- E-visa
