Travelling This Festive Season? Here's How Indian Railways' New Scheme Can Save You Money

Planning a trip with your family during Diwali or Chhath Puja? The Indian Railways has introduced a new experimental scheme called the "Round Trip Package" to help ease your travel woes. Launched by the Ministry of Railways, this initiative aims to reduce festive-season rush and make ticket booking more convenient. The scheme also seeks to redistribute peak passenger traffic over a longer period, ensuring better utilisation of trains in both directions - including special trains.

Key Features Of The "Round Trip Package" Scheme

  • Discounted Fares: Passengers will get a 20% rebate on the base fare of the return journey when booking a round trip.
  • Booking Period: Bookings open from August 14 for onward journeys between October 13 and October 26, with the return journey scheduled between November 17 and December 1.
  • Eligibility: Applicable to passengers of all classes who book both their onward and return journeys within the prescribed period on any train (including special trains/trains on demand), except those with Flexi Fare pricing.

Terms And Conditions

The rebate applies only when both onward and return journeys are booked together for the same set of passengers.

  • Passenger details for the return journey must match those of the onward journey.
  • Only confirmed tickets are eligible in both directions.
  • The same class and origin-destination (O-D) pair must be booked for both journeys.
  • The 60-day advance reservation period will not apply to discounted return tickets under this scheme.
  • No additional fare refund will be granted for tickets booked under this offer.
  • No fare collection will be made if any fare difference arises during charting for these PNRs.
  • No modifications will be allowed for either journey once booked.
  • No other discounts, rail travel coupons, voucher-based bookings, passes, or PTOs will be admissible for return journey bookings at concessional fares.
  • Both onward and return tickets must be booked using the same mode - either online via the IRCTC website/app or in person at a railway reservation counter.
