Dubai is now home to the world's first fully completed flying taxi station, and it's almost ready to take passengers. This new transport system will change how people commute in the UAE. A total of four stations have been planned in the network, with the first one ready near Dubai International Airport. The air taxi services are expected to be launched later this year for public use.
Dubai Has The World's First Flying Taxi Station
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared the milestone on X (formerly Twitter): "Today, I reviewed the progress of Dubai's air taxi station, the first of its kind in the world, located near Dubai International Airport. The station is ready." He also confirmed that this is just the beginning, “It forms part of a wider network including Downtown, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina, which will be completed by the end of this year.”

He added, “I directed that the service be launched for public use this year.” The first station is located near Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world. This location is strategic. It means travellers could step off a flight and hop into an air taxi within minutes.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the station includes a four-storey building spread across 3,100 sq metres, two take-off and landing pads, two levels of parking, charging stations for electric aircraft, and air-conditioned passenger areas. It's designed to handle around 170,000 passengers every year. RTA described it as "a strategic leap in Dubai's journey toward leadership in the future of urban mobility.”
Air Taxis Will Impact Travel Time Drastically
The aircraft is being developed by Joby Aviation, and it's very different from helicopters.
This aircraft takes off and lands vertically (like a helicopter) and runs on electric power. Designed for short and fast city trips, it's also much quieter, up to 100 times quieter than helicopters.
The best feature of the air taxi is the drastic change in travel time. According to the Dubai Media Office, travelling from the airport to Palm Jumeirah takes 45 mins on the road. But in the air taxi, it will take no more than 10 minutes. That's a massive time cut, especially in a busy city.

In 2025, the UAE conducted its first piloted air taxi flight, a 17-minute journey between test locations. Creating the city's first aerial transport network, Dubai plans to roll out a network of four stations:
- Near the airport
- Downtown Dubai
- Palm Jumeirah
- Dubai Marina
This new transport system shows how cities could work in the future.
