- A viral video showed a train compartment littered by students during a Manali tour
- The recorder urged students to pick up garbage and respect public property
- Social media users express disappointment and call for stricter rules and fines
A viral video on social media has sparked a debate on civic sense while travelling on public transport, this time questioning the behaviour of a group of students. The clip shows a train compartment with one bay littered with trash - sheets, empty plastic bottles, food wrappers, used spoons and playing cards tossed across the floor.
The person recording the video says in Hindi, "Let's talk about civic sense. Here we had students from Class 10 who are going on a Manali tour. I told them to pick up the garbage. In fact, I even picked up the garbage in front of them and told them it was public property. This kind of behaviour cannot be allowed."
He adds, "There should be at least this level of basic knowledge. One should not be spreading garbage like this. These are children, must be around 16-17 years old."

The video has gained widespread traction on social media, with several users reposting it and expressing disappointment over the conduct of the young generation.
One X user wrote, "Indian Railways should make some rules and start issuing fines for such irresponsible behaviour. An on-the-spot fine system should be developed."
Questioning the education system, another user commented, "What are schools teaching these days? It's their fault!"
Calling for stricter penalties, one user said, "I beg the government to bring in a very harsh penalty so that anyone will think twice before doing such things. These 500-1000 rupee fines will do nothing!"
Another viewer added, "Civic sense also comes from upbringing. Children learn what they see around them daily, especially in their families - just saying."
