- Massport will launch a remote security checkpoint pilot for Logan Airport on June 1
- Delta and JetBlue passengers on select flights can use the remote terminal in Framingham
- After screening, passengers will board buses directly to Logan gates bypassing airport checks
Massachusetts Port Authority, also known as Massport, is set to launch a new pilot program this summer at Logan International Airport that will allow some passengers to complete airport security checks before reaching the airport. The move is intended to ensure faster and easier travel.
The straight-to-gate program is set to become operational on June 1. Passengers flying with Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways on select flights between 5:30 am and 4:00 pm will be eligible to use the new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at the Logan Airport Remote Terminal in Framingham, located about 25 miles from Logan International Airport, according to Massport.

To avail themselves of the service at the remote terminal, passengers will need to reserve a seat online for USD 9. Reservations will be available up to 90 days before departure and until 90 minutes before the flight. Children will be able to travel free with a ticketed family member. Officials have said that, as seating is limited, passengers should book tickets as early as possible.
Once at the remote offsite terminal, passengers will need to check in, collect their boarding passes, and hand over their baggage before going through the same security screening process they would undergo at the airport, including checks by TSA officers. After clearing security, passengers will board buses operated by The Landline Company, which will take them directly to their gates at Logan Airport without requiring them to pass through airport checkpoints again.
Massport said the new system aims to reduce traffic congestion and long security lines at Logan Airport. The move comes after the airport experienced long security wait times earlier this year due to TSA staffing shortages during a partial US government shutdown.
According to Massport, this will be the first such straight-to-gate service in the country, available to passengers across all ticket classes on both domestic and international flights operated by Delta and JetBlue. “The Remote Terminal pilot program is part of Massport's broader vision to reimagine the travel experience and make the passenger journey more seamless, connected, and efficient,” Massport CEO Rich Davey said in a statement.
Massport is also planning to expand the service to other airlines in the future.
