Anand Mahindra has a unique social media presence that goes far beyond his profession and business. The Mahindra chairperson often shares posts highlighting hidden gems in India. His posts quickly catch people's attention and inspire them to take an interest in places that are usually overlooked. This time, he shone the spotlight on Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Sharing a video of the majestic shrine, Anand Mahindra wrote, "In Thiruvananthapuram stands the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, where architecture meets astronomy. On equinoxes, the setting sun aligns precisely with the temple's structure, appearing through a sequence of windows in timed intervals, an event often described as 'Suryasmaranam'.”
An equinox is an astronomical event when the Sun is positioned directly above Earth's equator. It occurs twice a year and results in nearly equal lengths of day and night. The phenomenon signifies the start of spring or autumn.

Anand Mahindra added, "Built centuries ago, but it reflects a sophisticated understanding of solar movement, geometry and orientation. Comforting that science and spirituality weren't separate pursuits. They coexisted and often reinforced each other. I'm putting this firmly on my own urgent bucket list: to be there on one of the two equinox days. I missed the spring equinox just this past Friday. But I have two chances every year. Calendar marked."

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple: Where Architecture Meets Astronomy
The Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams. The temple's principal deity is Anantha Padmanabhaswamy, a form of Vishnu depicted in yogic sleep on his serpent mount named Shesha. The origins of the temple are ancient and somewhat mysterious. Historians trace its existence back at least to the 8th century CE.
The temple features a glimpse of Dravidian and traditional Kerala architecture. Starting with a towering 7-tier gopuram, you enter the premises through the intricately carved corridors with 365 pillars. The principal deity is made of 12,008 sacred stones from Nepal's Gandaki River. In the Navagraha Mandapa, the ceiling is decorated with stone carvings of the nine planets of the solar system.

By Air: Trivandrum International Airport is the nearest airport, approximately 4-6 km away from the temple. You can easily hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw from here for a 15–20 minute drive.
By Train: Thiruvananthapuram Central is the closest major station, located just 1-2 km from the temple.
By Road: The East Fort Bus Stand is the main gateway and is within walking distance of the temple entrance. Taxis and autos can be hailed from any part of the city.
