Zika Virus Maharashtra

A 67-year-old man was found infected with the Zika virus in the Bavdhan area of Pune, the health department said on Friday. The man is a resident of Nashik and had come to Pune on November 6.

The centre has sent a team of three medical experts - including a malaria expert - to Maharashtra to support the state and "recommend necessary public health interventions" after its first ever case of Zika virus infection.

Maharashtra has reported its first-ever case of Zika virus infection. The 50-year-old woman patient from Purandar area in Pune also tested positive for Chikungunya.

Till date, no case of Zika virus disease has been reported in India even as dengue-hit states of Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been alerted as the same type of mosquito spreads both the viruses, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
