Around 100 farmers from different farmers associations were arrested at Thanjavur Railway station on Saturday when they tried to stage a 'rail roko' protest in front of the Cholan Express.

The Congress staged a rail roko in Kumbakonam and Virudhachalam in Tamil Nadu while party lawmakers resorted to a "black band" protest in front of the State Assembly in Chennaion Thursday.

Mass rail blockades by opposition parties and farmers continued for the second day today at various places across the state over the Cauvery issue, with police detaining Tamil Maanila Congress leader GK Vasan and about 300 farmers for staging protests.
