Former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn must face a civil trial over an alleged sex assault in New York, a New York judge ruled on Tuesday, rejecting his last ditch attempt to claim diplomatic immunity.

Allegations in the civil suit are much the same as the criminal charges initially lodged against Mr Strauss-Kahn: that Ms Diallo went to clean his luxury hotel suite and found herself being chased, then assaulted by its naked occupant.
