Road Safety Audit

The Delhi government has directed the PWD, MCD and DJB to carry out a safety audit of obsolete drains and pipelines following recent incidents of road cave-ins in the city, minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Tuesday.

A safety audit on the highway, which witnessed the accidental death of Tata Sons' former chairman Cyrus Mistry, has raised concerns over poor maintenance, inadequate signages to guide drivers and over two dozen median openings along the stretch.

Nitin Gadkari said that safety audits have been mandated at all stages of road development to reduce accidents.

Mr Gadkari said that his aim is to achieve 50 per cent reduction in road accident deaths and zero accidents and deaths by 2030.

The Railways said today it will carry out a safety audit of nearly 450 road overbridges, foot overbridges and bridges over the pipelines in Mumbai.
