Recycle Used Vehicles

On World Environment Day 2022, we spoke with Shekhar Bhide, Vice President Customer Services & Corporate Affairs, Mercedes-Benz India about the initiatives Mercedes-Benz India has taken with respect to preserving our environment and cultivating sustainable alternatives.

The funds are said to be allocated by the US Department of Energy from the $1 trillion (roughly Rs. 76,62,200 crore) infrastructure bill President Joe Biden signed last year. Among the initiatives will be processing of minerals for use in large-capacity batteries and recycling those batteries, according to officials.

To achieve this goal, Mercedes-Benz will electrify its vehicle fleet, charging with green energy, improving battery technology, and extensively use recycled materials and renewable energy in production.

Pramac directly reuses up to 85 per cent of the vehicle battery supplied by Jaguar Land Rover within the storage unit, including modules and wiring. The remaining materials are recycled back into the supply chain.

The automakers will join battery recycling startup Redwood Materials in developing processes, starting in California, to collect end-of-life batteries from electric and hybrid vehicles and recover the materials for use in new batteries.
