An unmarried couple was dragged off a motorcycle and thrashed by a mob, in what has been reported as the latest instance of moral policing in the state.

In a case of moral policing, a mob waylaid an unmarried couple going on a motorcycle and assaulted them for travelling together, police said today. The incident went viral on social media following which two people have been arrested.

Curfew has been imposed in Malaipathar in Assam's Goalpara district amid violence in which four people have been killed. Two people died this morning when the police opened fire to control a 3000-strong mob on the rampage. Two more people were killed later in mob violence.
