Fake 2000 Rupee Notes

Minister of State for Finance Santosh Gangwar said the government is not perturbed by the stray incident of fake 2,000 rupee notes bearing 'Children Bank of India' being dispensed from a State Bank of India ATM in South Delhi's Sangam Vihar.

A man in Delhi who withdrew four 2,000-rupee notes from an ATM was shocked to see, at a closer glance, that it had been issued by the "Children Bank Of India".

Two persons were arrested today with counterfeit Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 currency notes with a face value of Rs 26,10,000, police in Gujarat's Rajkot said.

In Bengaluru, four men used a copier and some glitter to make fake 2,000-rupee notes that they even used in several shops.

An MBA student and her cousin were among three persons arrested with fake Rs 2,000 currency notes with a face value of Rs 42 lakh in Mohali on Wednesday, police said in Mohali.

In two separate incidents, Odisha Police arrested a youth on charge of circulating fake Rs 2,000 notes and recovered Rs 4.8 lakh stocked in the newly-introduced denomination post the Centre's demonetisation move.

The new 500 and 2,000 rupee notes that Central Bank RBI will issue starting from Friday are being called "high security" notes and have several new features to make them harder to fake than the 500 and 1000 rupee notes that were scrapped last night.

This is necessitated to tackle counterfeiting Indian banknotes, to effectively nullify black money hoarded in cash and curb funding of terrorism with fake notes, the RBI said.
