Ramu and Shekhar, brothers and teenagers, live in a tiny village in Andhra Pradesh's Mahbubnagar district. Their home is a tiny, concrete one-room structure with virtually nothing to distinguish it from others near it. But Ramu and Shekhar are not uncomfortable when we ask to film them.

Critics say the state government's guidelines for defining who is a farmer and what is a genuine farmer suicide has tended to be exclusive rather than inclusive. Women are not identified as farmers, especially because land is rarely bought or registered in their names.
