Chennai: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today condoled the death of four persons in a stampede in Tiruvannamalai yesterday and announced an overall cash relief of Rs. four lakh.
She expressed grief over the death of the four persons at the famous Lord Arunachaleswarar temple and sympathised with their families, a statement said.
It said she directed that a relief of Rs. one lakh each be paid to the families of the deceased persons.
The four persons had drowned at the 'Ayyan Theerthavari Kulam' at the temple when more than 2,000 devotees tried to take a holy dip along with the priests, who entered the waters with the sacred trident.
Jayalalithaa also announced a relief of Rs. one lakh each to the families of 11 people killed in various accidents across the state.
