Asian Games 2010: Venues
Guangzhou: The November 12-27 Asian Games will use 53 competition venues, with 49 of them in Guangzhou and four in co-host cities. Here are brief profiles of the key areas being used:


AOTI SPORTS CENTRE

This facility is the largest in Guangzhou and has been built from scratch. It consists of eight venues, including the Aoti Main Stadium which will host athletics, an aquatics centre for swimming and diving and a tennis centre. It will also host baseball, shooting, field hockey, archery and modern pentathlon.


TIANHE SPORTS CENTRE

This sports centre, completed in 1987 for China's National Games, is close to the city centre and comprises six venues, including a softball field, a bowling hall, a gymnasium for badminton and basketball, and a 60,000-capacity stadium, where football will be played. Soft tennis and water polo will also be held here.


UNIVERSITY TOWN

Clustered around the city's main university campus are 12 competition venues, including the 38,000-capacity University Town Main Stadium which will play host to football and rugby. The Guangzhou velodrome is located here where roller sports and BMX and track cycling will take place. There are also several gymnasiums in the area for judo, wrestling, handball, volleyball and basketball. It is also home to the Guangdong Cricket Stadium.


ASIAN GAMES TOWN

Adjacent to Lotus Mountain, it is newly built and consists of seven major parts -- the athletes' village, technical officials' village, media village, main media centre, logistics area, a gymnasium and the Asian Games Park. It will house some 14,000 athletes and officials, an estimated 10,000 media and 2,800 technical personnel.


OTHERS

Scattered around town are several other smaller stadiums that will host events such as squash, chess, karate, taekwondo, sepaktakraw, golf, table tennis and equestrian. Four events will be held outside Guangzhou, with boxing and synchronized swimming in Foshan, weightlifting at Dongguan and sailing at the Shanwei Water Sports Centre.
