In 2015, the government of Andhra Pradesh partnered with Berkeley University to launch the ‘Smart Villages Mission' and the sleepy village of Mori emerged as Andhra Pradesh's first smart village. Later, government partnered with corporations like USHA International to create employment opportunities in the villages and curb migration.

The sleepy village of Mori in Andhra Pradesh, has seen many leave in search of better livelihood opportunities. When Berekely University and the government of Andhra Pradesh collaborated to work on creating opportunities within the villages, they found a sustainable solution in Usha Silai School initiative to curb instances of migration.

Leelakumari, 36, a resident of Razole Mandal, East Godavari joined the USHA Sewing School in January 2018. Since then, she has started her own sewing center and has started training other women to become self-reliant.

Seen here is Leelakumari's training center at Uppulurru where she began holding classes in January 2018 after receiving certificate from the USHA Sewing School. Since, then she has helped more 20 women in her village and makes nearly Rs. 500 per student.

With 17 years of experience in tailoring, Srihari did not find the right avenues and switched many jobs to make ends meet. After a brief stint with the Silai school, he finally opened his own tailoring unit and is grateful to the USHA Sewing School for the guidance he got there.

Srihari also opened his own sewing school in Bhimavaram to help more people like him, who struggled to make a living in the village. Seen here are students at his training center.

Once Srihari received the affiliation from USHA Sewing School, his class of 5 students grew to 20. Moreover the support from the training center also helped him in receiving more orders.
