Rahul, Sonia lead the Congress show of might at mega-rally in Delhi

In a massive show of strength, the Congress party organised a mammoth rally at the Ramlila Maidan, to explain to the people the need for reform measures like allowing foreign direct investment in retail and also counter the many allegations of corruption that leaders and ministers from the party face.

In a charged speech, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi listed the Congress party's achievements, clearly taking on not just the BJP but also new political opponent Arvind Kejriwal and also launching what is clearly his party's mission 2014.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi also made an impassioned speech launching a scathing attack on the Opposition for stalling important bills and discussions.

Rahul Gandhi made a rare appearance on the same stage as Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and was the first to address the crowd.

The top brass's speeches seemed to greatly enliven the crowd.

The colour pink stood out and was favoured by Congress workers from Haryana - pink turbans for men, pink saris for women - which they said indicated their "pro-FDI" stand.
