Newspaper Headlines: Tunnel Used By Terrorists For Infiltration Found In Jammu and Kashmir & Other Top Stories

  • Hindustan Times: A week after sending high-level teams to five states to handhold them in containing the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) , the Centre is set to dispatch experts to three other states to review public health measures there and assist local authorities in managing the pandemic. The Border Security Force (BSF) found clinching evidence that the four Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists killed in the November 19 Nagrota encounter had indeed travelled to Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan with the discovery of a 200-metre-long and almost 8-metre-deep professionally engineered underground tunnel on the international border early on Sunday.
  • The Indian Express: Even as states with relatively smaller case loads have been reporting a spurt in Covid cases, the Centre has dispatched highlevel teams to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to help them tackle the spread of the disease. While fresh cases of coronavirus infections continue to decline - or remain stagnant - in the worst-affected states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, on the other hand, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and even Himachal Pradesh have been seeing a significant rise inactive cases. In a key breakthrough, the Border Security Force (BSF) and police have detected a cross border tunnel in the Regal area of Jammu's Samba district that was used by four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists to enter J&K before they were gunned down by security forces in an encounter at Nagrota three days ago.
  • The Asian Age: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that India is not only meeting the targets of the Paris agreement on Climate Change but is also exceeding them. PM Modi also said that while the world currently is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, it is "equally important to fight climate change in an integrated, comprehensive and holistic way".
