Metro train services can resume in a phased manner from September 7 and lockdowns can't be imposed outside containment zones, the central government said on Saturday as it announced new steps to ease COVID-19 restrictions as part of the fourth phase of unlocking.

The Centre on Saturday issued guidelines for Unlock4 to lift restrictions imposed to stop the spread of the coronavirus, announcing that metro rail services can resume in a graded manner from September 7, and political, social, religious and sporting activities with crowds limited to 100 people will be allowed along with limited academic activities.
