Around 700 passengers are stranded at the Chennai airport, where water has entered the runway, reaching the under carriage of aircraft after two days of heavy and continuous rain. All flights have been suspended at the airport and trains have been cancelled.
Chennai is confronting its worst crisis after overnight rain that has left most of the city flooded and people wading in almost waist deep water.
Around 700 passengers are stranded at the Chennai airport, where the runway is flooded.
Flights to and out of Chennai have been cancelled and the airport is shut till 6 am tomorrow with water on the runway.
Till 10 pm on Tuesday, nine flights had been cancelled.
Chennai faces more rain in the next four days, said the Met office. It is the worst rain in Tamil Nadu in nearly 100 years.
