June 2026 Becomes India's 3rd Driest June in Nearly a Century
India recorded just 99.5 mm of rainfall in June 2026, making it the third driest June since 1927, according to IMD data. Only 2009 (87.5 mm) and 2014 (92.1 mm) received less rainfall.
June 2026 closed with a sharp rainfall deficit, receiving only 60% of the Long Period Average (LPA), while the southwest monsoon covered less of India by June 30 compared to the same time in 2025.
By June 30, the southwest monsoon had covered a smaller part of India than it had by June 29, 2025, reflecting a slower advance and delayed seasonal progress.
