Malaika Arora Khan was born on 23 August 1973, is a model, actress, television personality and former MTV VJ.
Malaika was born in Mumbai to a Punjabi father and a Malayali Catholic mother.
She has done her schooling from Mumbai.
She lived opposite Basant Talkies before starting her modeling career.
Malaika was chosen as one of the first MTV VJs when MTV India was launched in India.
She became an interviewer for the channel and then went on to become the most prominent non-movie, non-model female in India.
Malaika then began co-anchoring Love Line and Style Check with Cyrus Broacha.
She also became an instant hit at award ceremonies and concerts on the television channel.
It was later that Malaika entered the world of modeling and here too she was successful.
She has appeared in a number of advertisements, in print and on television.
Then came her first hit Bollywood item number, Chaiya Chaiya in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se which made her the industry's most sought after item girl.
In 2005, she did yet another item number in Kaal again with Shah Rukh Khan.
Then she did an item number in Mahesh Babu's Telugu film.
In 2007, she did a title song in Heyy Babyy directed by Sajid Khan.
Then she was seen in the popular song from Om Shanti Om along with a host of other known stars.
In 2008, she did an item number Hoth Rasiley in the film Welcome with Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor. Her scintillating moves made the song an instant hit.
In 2009 she played a judge on reality show Lux Perfect Bride.
And now she is Munni Badnam in Dabangg. The song features her with brother-in-law Salman Khan. The song has become a rage all over.
Malaika is married to Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan whom she met during a coffee ad shoot.
The couple has a son, Arhaan.
She has a sister Amrita Arora, who was also an MTV VJ before turning to acting.
