Soha was born to veteran Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore and the late Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan on October 4, 1978. Tiger Pataudi, as her father was known, was one of India's most successful cricket captains.
Soha's older brother is Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, and older sister Saba Ali Khan is a jewellery designer.
Soha attended The British School in New Delhi and Balliol College, Oxford. She has a Master's degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Before venturing into Bollywood, Soha worked for the Ford Foundation and Citibank.
Following in the footsteps of her mother and brother, Soha made her Bollywood debut in 2004 with the film Dil Maange More, which also featured Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Tulip Joshi.

In the 2007 movie Khoya Khoya Chand, Soha's look and performance drew comparisons with her mother Sharmila and was much lauded.
Soha's performance in Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008) and Dil Kabaddi (2008) received average reviews.
Soha featured in five movies in the year 2009 - Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge, Tum Mile, 99, Meridian Lines and Life Goes On. Except for Tum Mile, all the movies failed at the box office. Tum Mile also garnered mixed reviews.
In the year 2010, Soha worked in Tera Kya Hoga Jhonny and Mumbai Cutting, both of which performed poorly at the box office.
In 2011, Soha featured in Soundtrack opposite Rajeev Khandelwal. Despite being hailed by the critics, it was declared a flop at the box office.
Midnight's Children was Soha's only movie in 2012. Soha played the role of the protagonist's sister in this movie adaptation of Salman Rushdie's controversial novel.
The movie was screened at several international film festivals and was nominated for the Best Picture at the 2013 Canadian Screen Awards.
Soha's performance in Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013) was well received by critics and the audience. As was her role in War Chhod Na Yaar which released the same year and did average business at the box office.
