Mumbai:
Train services came to a halt, homes and businesses were without electricity and people sweltered in humid heat as a grid failure resulted in massive power outages across Mumbai Monday morning.
The power supply was restored in many parts of Mumbai after a blackout of over 2 hours. The unprecedented power cut was reported a little after 10 am, leaving several local trains stranded on tracks. Western Railway said the breakdown was due to a grid failure at Tata Power. Commuters were seen walking on rail tracks. The central and western line train services have now been restored.
The city's civic body asked hospitals to ensure there is enough supply of diesel for at least eight hours to avoid power failures, especially in the ICUs.
Within minutes of the outage, people took to social media. Hashtags such as #powercut, #Mumbai and #poweroutage started trending on Twitter. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was among those who took to social media.

The power supply (in Mumbai) has been restored substantially, out of 2000 MW which went off, about 1900 MW has been restored, the remaining will be restored soon. The national grid is fine, the problem happened in some parts of the state grid, said Union Power Minister RK Singh.

Mumbai Power Outage: Trains Rescheduled
In view of interruption in Traction power at 10:05 AM due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, five long distance trains of Western Railways are affected as under:
1) 09025 Bandra terminus- Amritsar clone special train which departs at 11:15 AM is rescheduled to depart at 1 PM.
2) 02925 Bandra terminus- Amritsar Pashchim Express which departs at 12 Noon is rescheduled to depart at 1:15 PM.
3) 02933 Ahmedabad- Mumbai Central Karnavati Express will be short terminated at Borivali and will depart from Borivali as 02934
4) 09115 Sayaji Nagri Express will be short terminated at Borivali station and will depart from Borivali as 09116
5) 02480 Bandra terminus- Jodhpur Surya Nagri Express which departs at 1:30 PM is rescheduled to depart at 2:30 PM.

Mumbai Power Outage: Mumbai Civic Body Chief's Statement For Hospitals
In a statement this morning, IS Chahal, the commissioner of Mumbai's civic body - Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC - told the hospitals to reach out to disaster control room for help amid the city's fight against coronavirus.
"All the hospitals to contact their respective SWM transport GARAGE officers to get enough supply of diesel for at least eight hours so that there is no power failures in hospitals especially ICUs. In case of any issues please contact disaster control room for help. CE SWM to coordinate this," the statement read.
"Disaster control and CE M&E To keep stand bye private MOBILE DG SET vehicles handy within next one hour in case power failure continues beyond two hours. Please report to Shri. Narvekar or smt. Sangita Lokhande at DM Control about this every half an hour," it further added

"In view of interruption in Traction power at 10.05 hrs due to Grid failure of Tata Power company, services btwn Churchgate & Borivili are suspended. It shall be resumed as soon as traction power supply is restored. Commuters are requested to cooperate. However, Power supply, from MSETCL available at Vasai Road & it has been extended to work essential suburban trains between Borivili to Virar section," an official statement read.
"Efforts are on to start services in Churchgate-Borivali section.
Commuters are requested not to panic & maintain social distancing," the statement further read.
