Moderate rains hit parts of Himachal Pradesh in the 24 hours until Friday evening, leading to three deaths and the blocking of 49 roads.

Three vehicles-a four-wheeler, a rickshaw, and an Eeco van-were trapped in the water due to the heavy rains in Gujarat's Junagadh, prompting a rescue operation by the fire department. The fire team safely rescued all 19 people who were inside the stranded vehicles.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for moderate to intense rainfall across Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Nashik, and the Pune ghats over the next three hours. 

The southwest monsoon has brought widespread rainfall across Rajasthan, with Sambhar in Jaipur district recording the highest rainfall of 8 cm during the 24-hour period ending Friday morning.

The monsoon advanced and covered more areas in Udaipur, Jaipur and Ajmer divisions on Friday.

Nimbahera in Chittorgarh district, Kekri in Ajmer, Phagi in Jaipur and Buhana in Jhunjhunu recorded 7 cm each, while Kotri in Bhilwara received 6 cm. Several other places recorded rainfall below 6 cm till Friday morning since yesterday.

Schools in the Thane district will be closed tomorrow in the wake of a red alert amid heavy rains, authorities said on Friday. The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation will additionally close colleges in the area, as rain continues to batter Thane.

Monsoon has arrived in Maharashtra's Lonavala and Khandala, with the famous "Bhushi Dam"overflowing and attracting tourists who want to enjoy its beauty. The area recorded rainfall of 229 mm over the last 48 hours.  

An old, dilapidated building in the Kumbharwada area of Bhavnagar city collapsed due to the ongoing rainy season, leaving three people injured. According to reports, the city has been experiencing rainy weather for the past few days-conditions that increase the risk of accidents involving old, dilapidated structures.

Gujarat's Sutrapada received 25 inches of rainfallover three days, with farmland and homes in Vadodara Jhala village submerged in water. Rainwater has surrounded not only the village fields but also many homes.

Drone footage of the area reveals a grim scene of waterlogging. Flood-like conditions have developed across the entire village. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and is engaged in relief operations. Locals have been urged to remain vigilant and step out of their homes only if absolutely necessary.

Waterlogging has been reported from Vadodara Jhala village, Sutrapada Taluka, in Gir Somnath District.

Mumbai has been battered by rains throughout this week following the late onset of the monsoon, throwing normal life out of gear.

"Currently, the monsoon is active and has advanced into further parts of Eastern Rajasthan. Due to the influence of these systems, the monsoon is expected to remain active across most parts of Eastern Rajasthan for the coming week. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in isolated areas, particularly within the Bharatpur, Kota, and Udaipur divisions," says Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre Radheshyam Sharma.

Residents of low-lying areas in the Malia Hatina taluka have been urged to remain vigilant. The administration has strictly prohibited people from venturing near the riverbanks or into the riverbed and has advised against unnecessary movement.

Given the turbulent state of the Meghal River, the local administration is continuously monitoring the situation. People have been urged not to pay heed to rumors and to follow only the official warnings issued by the administration.

Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the Malia Hatina taluka of Junagadh district in Gujarat, the Meghal River is overflowing and running at full capacity. The administration has issued an alert following the strong currents and flood-like situation in the river near Gadu village.

Eight rain-related deaths have been recorded in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani and Nanded districts of Maharashtra's Marathwada region since June 1, an official said on Friday.

These comprise three each in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nanded and two in Parbhani, he added.

Citing an official report, he also said 181 animals have died due to rain across Marathwada during this period, including 81 in Nanded and 31 in Hingoli. (PTI)

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region is under Red alert for tomorrow, with the India Meteorological Department indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places and extremely heavy rains at isolated places.

The IMD on Friday forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Jharkhand over the next four days.

The weather office issued an 'orange' alert (be prepared) for isolated thunderstorms and lightning across all 24 districts on Saturday, followed by a 'yellow' alert (be updated) from July 6 to 8.

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph is likely across the state during the period, the IMD said.

According to the IMD bulletin, Latehar, Palamu, Chatra and Garhwa districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Sunday.

On Monday, Hazaribag, Ramgarh, Latehar, Chatra and Ranchi districts are expected to witness heavy rain, while Khunti, Gumla, Simdega and West Singhbhum are likely to receive heavy showers on Tuesday.

"Cloudy conditions are likely to prevail, with a possibility of light to moderate rainfall across the state, and heavy rain is expected at isolated places. There will be no significant change in the maximum temperature over the next five days," the bulletin said. (PTI)

Data compiled from June 1 to July 1, 2026, presents an alarming picture of agricultural and hydrological stress. Approximately 79 per cent of the geographical area of the country, spanning 29 states, has recorded a status of 'Deficit' or 'Large Deficit'.

Cumulatively, the country received only 108.1 mm of rainfall against the historical normal average of 172.9 mm for this specific month, marking a 37.5 per cent shortfall nationwide, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Out of the 741 districts monitored by the IMD, an overwhelming 72 per cent (535 districts) are classified under deficit or large deficit categories. Conversely, only 201 districts (27 per cent) managed to achieve normal or excess / large excess thresholds.

India is currently experiencing a profound meteorological dichotomy: a massive sluggishness in the advancement of the monsoon leading to widespread drought-like conditions, paired with localised cloudbursts that have triggered devastating floods. While cumulative nationwide monsoon metrics indicate a 38 per cent deficit, specific pocketed regions have recorded rainfall above normal averages, putting infrastructure and lives under immense duress.

A 35-year-old motorcyclist, Rahul Ashok Patil, was killed after a coconut tree fell on his moving bike amid heavy rain in Rai village of Mira-Bhayandar in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Friday.

Rahul Patil, a resident of Murdhagaon, was the son of Ashok Patil, former deputy mayor of the Mira-Bayandar Municipal Council.

Officials said the incident happened in Sadanand Nagar area on Wednesday evening when Rahul was riding his bike and suddenly a coconut tree fell on him.

Moderate to intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri till 1 pm.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast isolated heavy rainfall over West Madhya Pradesh on July 3 and 4, and over East Madhya Pradesh between July 5 and July 8.

The weather department said isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over East Madhya Pradesh during July 3 and 4, while West Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive isolated very heavy rainfall during July 5-8.

Additionally, the IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh on July 3 and 4.

The forecast comes as parts of Ujjain continue to grapple with waterlogging and a rise in the Shipra River following persistent rainfall.

Severe waterlogging on Friday was witnessed in parts of Ujjain following heavy rainfall.Several temples located near Ram Ghat were also submerged after the water level of the Shipra River rose due to continuous rainfall in the state.

Bridge on Hiranyakeshi River in Maharashtra's Sidhudurg caves in due to heavy rain.

Delhi woke up to cloudy skies on Friday, with the minimum temperature settling at 28.1 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 32 degrees Celsius.

Station-wise data showed that Palam logged 25.9 degrees Celsius, 1.9 notches below normal; Lodhi Road recorded 28.0 degrees Celsius, 1.0 notch above normal; Ridge logged 24.6 degrees Celsius, 0.9 notch below normal; while Ayanagar recorded 25.8 degrees Celsius, 1.0 notch below normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for moderate rain and thunderstorms through the day. The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain for the day.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely during the forenoon, afternoon, evening and night, along with light to moderate rainfall.

A 17-year-old girl died after allegedly coming in contact with a live electric wire in rainwater in the Mumbra area of Thane, officials said.

The locals alleged that an exposed and improperly installed wire belonging to a power supply company led to the incident, causing electricity to spread into rainwater. The girl, who lived with her father and had a younger brother, died on the spot due to electrocution, they said.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange' alert for Uttarakhand's Nainital and Bageshwar districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas on Friday.

The monsoon arrived in Uttarakhand on June 30 and became active across the entire state by Wednesday. According to the Dehradun-based Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rainfall was observed in various regions on Thursday.
