On the question of whether skills are more important than marks, Anil Somani, Founder and Executive Chairman of FOSTIIMA Business School, New Delhi, said that all three, skills, marks, and education, are important, but their relevance changes at different stages of the education system.

He noted that India's education system is largely outcome-driven, where parents focus on securing assured results and minimising risks through education. "At the school level, marks become very, very important. At the undergraduate level, career prospects and employability take precedence. At the postgraduate level, especially in B-schools, factors such as MBA outcomes, return on investment, institute reputation, and placement opportunities become more significant than education alone," he said.

He further explained that at each stage, the nature of "outcome" and "risk mitigation" differs, but all three, skills, marks, and educationm remain equally important in shaping a student's journey.
