Delhi polls: Congress candidate booked, BSP workers arrested with liquor

New Delhi: Two BSP workers have been arrested for allegedly trying to lure voters by distributing liquor in Alipur area of north-west Delhi, while Congress candidate Sushil Kumar Gupta has been booked on charges of holding an illegal political meeting at a banquet hall.

Congress MLA from Kondli, Amrish Singh Gautam, has also come under the scanner as his photographs were found pasted on the doors of one Malohtra Properties Office, from where four cartons of liquor were seized by a team of flying squad teams at Kichripur yesterday.

"No direct link has been established with Gautam's picture and the carton of liquors seized. Investigation in the matter is on," said Ankur Garg, Chief Nodal Officer, Model code of Conduct.

The two BSP workers are identified as Lait and Pramod.

They were allegedly caught in action by a patrolling team of police yesterday.

The case against Sushil Kumar Gupta, a candidate from Moti Nagar constituency, was registered in connection with violation of model code of conduct.

Gupta was holding a political meeting of 300-350 people at a banquet hall with any permission.

Besides that, a case has been registered against Congress candidate from Shahdara, Narendra Nath, for conducting a rally at Dilshad Garden without permission, under violation of Model code of conduct.

Six FIRs were registered yesterday, three for public property defacement, two for conducting meeting without permission and one for inducement.

Moreover, non-bailable warrants were executed against 48 persons yesterday, Garg said.

A total of 57 persons were held yesterday under section 107/116 CrPC and preventive action was taken against 663 persons under various sections of CrPC and Delhi Police Act.
