Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former prime minister and BJP stalwart, has been put on life-support system, the AIIMS said in a statement on Wednesday. The hospital said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee's condition worsened over the past 24 hours. Mr Vajpayee was admitted to the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on June 11 with urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion.
A new statement put out today said his condition has remains the same.
Leaders across party lines have prayed for his recovery. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the AIIMS on Wednesday evening to enquire about Mr Vajpayee's condition. BJP president Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, senior leader LK Advani and other leaders have also visited AIIMS.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi has also prayed for his recovery.

The 93-year-old BJP leader is battling for life and remains on advanced life support at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for the second day.

Leaders from other political parties, including Congress's Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ram Vilas Paswan from Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), NC's Farooq Abdullah, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, visited the premier health institute, a PTI report said.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah after visiting the hospital said,"We should not forget he is one Indian leader who wanted to strengthen the country."
"Whenever he had a programme in Bihar, Odisha, he used to go via Kolkata and would come to our house", Ghanshyam Beriwal said.
