AAP's Sanjeev Arora has won the Ludhiana West Assembly seat, defeating Congress's Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of 10,637 votes.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Kerala's Wayanad, has congratulated her party colleague Aryadan Shoukath on his victory in the by-election in Nilambur in the state.

She thanked the people of Nilambur for their trust in the United Democratic Front's (UDF) vision and expressed confidence that their support would guide the party forward.

"We worked as a team, each one with commitment and single-pointed focus, that is the most important lesson of this success. Heartiest congratulations to Aryadan Shoukath whose dedication and service has shone through and to all the leaders and workers of the UDF whose efforts made this victory possible," she wrote on X.

"Most of all a big thank you to my sisters and brothers of Nilambur for your support. Your trust and belief in the values of our constitution, and in the UDF's vision for progress will be the guiding light for our way forward," Ms Gandhi added.

As per the final results by the Election Commission, AAP's Gopal Italia polled 75,942 votes and defeated BJP's Kirit Patel by 17,554 votes. Congress' Nitin Ranpariya, with 5,501 votes, was in third place.

As AAP's Gopal Italia won the Visavadar seat in Gujarat and his party colleague, Sanjeev Arora, inched closer to victory in the Ludhiana West by-election, Punjab's AAP in-charge, Manish Sisodia, said it is a "matter of great joy" for every party worker. 

"Both seats are very important... This boosts the morale of AAP workers in Punjab. People of Punjab have given their stamp of approval on the works done by the Bhagwant Mann government. They are happy with the work being done," he told the news agency ANI.

"It was being discussed in Punjab that these are semi-finals. We have won the semi-final, it is now time for THE final," he said, while referring to the Punjab assembly elections in 2027.

He also praised Mr Italia and said he is a "sharp leader".

"He will emerge as a strong voice," Mr Sisodia, the former Delhi deputy chief minister, said.

In Kadi seat, reserved for the Scheduled Caste candidates, BJP's Rajendra Chavda polled nearly 1 lakh votes to defeat Congress' Ramesh Chavda.

While the BJP candidate received 99,742 votes, the Congress leader got 60,290.

BJP's Rajendra Chavda has won the Kadi seat in Gujarat, defeating Congress' Ramesh Chavda by nearly 40,000 votes.

The Congress has won the Nilambur Assembly by-election in Kerala, in a blow to the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government.

Aryadan Shoukath, the Congress-led UDF candidate, received more than 77,000 votes and defeated his nearest rival, M Swaraj of the ruling CPI(M), by over 11,000 votes.

AAP's Gopal Italia has won the Visavadar seat by defeating his nearest rival, BJP's Kirit Patel, by more than 17,000 votes.

While Mr Italia received over 75,000 votes, Mr Patel got more than 58,000 votes.

The Visavadar seat fell vacant in December 2023 after the then AAP legislator Bhupendra Bhayani resigned and joined the ruling BJP.

AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora is now leading with a margin of 4,748 votes against his nearest rival and Congress nominee Bharat Bhushan Ashu from the Ludhiana West assembly seat, according to the Election Commission website.

He has so far polled 22,205 votes and Mr Ashu 17,457 votes.

BJP's Jiwan Gupta is on the third spot with 13,882 votes.

Trinamool Congress is headed for a landslide victory in the Kaliganj Assembly bypoll. Party's Alifa Ahmed has now widened her lead to 26,500.

While Ms Ahmed has secured 47,000 votes, her closest rival, BJP’s Ashish Ghosh, has polled 20,500 votes.

AAP's Gopal Italia has now taken lead in Gujarat's Visavadar after the initial rounds of counting. Mr Italia, AAP's former Gujarat president, is currently ahead by more than 5,500 votes.

Despite its near-total dominance in Gujarat, the BJP has not won the Visavadar seat since 2007.

Trinamool's Alifa Ahmed is leading by more than 19,000 votes in Kaliganj.

Congress leader Aryadan Shoukath has taken a comfortable lead in Kerala's Nilambur. He is currently leading by nearly 7,000 votes.

BJP candidate Rajendra Chavda is currently leading by over 14,000 votes in Gujarat's Kadi.

BJP's Kirit Patel is currently leading by more than 900 votes in Visavadar.

In Ludhiana West, AAP's Sanjeev Arora is currently leading by more than 2,500 votes.

In Kaliganj, Trinamool Congress candidate Alifa Ahmed is up against BJP's Ashish Ghosh and Congress' Kabil Uddin Sheikh, who is backed by the Left Front.

In the Ludhiana West bypoll, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjeev Arora is fielded against Congress' Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP's Jiwan Gupta and Parupkar Singh Ghumman from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

In Kerala's Nilambur, the ruling LDF chose M Swaraj, who is contesting against Aryadan Shoukath (Congress-led UDF), Trinamool Congress' PV Anvar, and Mohan George of the BJP-led NDA.

In Gujarat's Kadi, the BJP has fielded Rajendra Chavda against Congress' Ramesh Chavda, a former MLA from the same seat, and AAP's Jagdish Chavda. 

In Visavadar, the ruling party has nominated Kirit Patel against AAP's Gopal Italia and Congress' Nitin Ranpariya.

The bypolls were necessitated after the deaths of the incumbent legislators in one seat each in Gujarat, West Bengal and Punjab, and the resignation of two MLAs in Kerala and Gujarat.

Votes are currently being counted for the by-elections to five Assembly seats in four states - Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab and West Bengal. The bypolls were held on June 19 for two Assembly seats in Gujarat's Visavadar and Kadi, and one each in Kerala's Nilambur, Punjab's Ludhiana West, and West Bengal's Kaliganj.
